Shuttle service from downtown Chicago to the Maxwell Market District drops you at the northern edge of the Maxwell Market district, giving you about an hour to explore the sights, sounds, and smells of the Maxwell Sunday Market, where vendors of all kinds sell goods every Sunday, usually accompanied by a soundtrack –  the longtime tradition, a live Maxwell St. blues jam.   We’ll pick you up at the south end of the Market, and provide you with the Sunday “breakfast of champions” (a Polish with fries) at Jim’s Original Maxwell St. Polish, another recommended authentic Maxwell Street tradition!
  • The Maxwell Market District is a landmark district which includes both the historic locations of the Market over its century of history, as well as the present-day Maxwell Sunday Market. The blues has long been associated with the Market, both through the recently-revived tradition of live blues jams on the Market, as well as the history of entrepreneurship which resulted in many classic recordings.  The Maxwell St. Foundation is a not-for-profit organization which raises awareness of the the market’s history.

The narrated tour will explore how Maxwell Market and the communities of black and Jewish immigrants on the West Side played a special role in the history and development of Chicago Blues.

Cameras, video cameras allowed and encouraged!
